Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any experience to hire a boat?

No experience required! The Gloucester & Sharpeness canal is a great place to get to grips with boat handling, the waterway is wide and there are no currents. Full training and safety brief will be provided.

Do I need to book in advance?

Booking in advance is highly recommended, however you are welcome to turn up on the day and we'll do our best to fit you in.

How old do I have to be?

The minimum age to book and hire is 18 years old. Each adult can supervise up to 4 children under the age of 12. There is no minimum age for passengers and babies are welcome, please just mention in the brooking notes if you are bringing them.

Which payment methods do you accept?

Advance bookings are paid for in full online. Card payments can also be made for hires on the day.

Where can I go on the boat?

Anywhere along the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal. Shorter duration hires are great for sightseeing the historic docks, and for 2 or more hours you'll get to travel through some lovely countryside, as well as stopping off for refreshments along the way.

Travelling through the lock onto the River Severn is not permitted.

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs are welcome aboard. We ask that you specify any dogs at the time of booking. We cannot provide any floatation devices for pets so they are carried at your own risk.

Where can I park?

The closest carpark is on Southgate Street, which is right next to us (prices from £1.40 per hour). There is also parking at Gloucester Quays Multi-storey, and other city centre car parks.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

You will need to leave us with your photo ID for the duration of your hire. For more info please read our terms and conditions.

What if I'm late back?

Please arrive back at the specified time as being late may affect someone else's hire. There is a late charge of £30 per 15 minutes (or part thereof).

What if it rains?

Please check the forecast before your trip and prepare accordingly.
We cannot refund or reschedule your booking in cases of bad weather, unless conditions make travel unsafe. We will contact you as soon as possible if this is the case.
